Negligence by NHS Tayside was to blame for the death of a Dundee man who took his own life - according to an independent report.

David Ramsay was turned away by the Carseview psychiatric hospital in October 2016, just days before he died.

A leading psychiatrist has now found this led to his death.

David's niece Gillian Murray has been fighting for answers for almost three years.

"When I read the words that NHS Tayside's negligence directly led to his death I was elated, in a weird way," she said

"This is what I've been fighting for. It was negligence from start to finish which has now been confirmed."

Gillian now wants one thing more than anything.

"Accountability. David asked for help and he didn't get it," she said.

"We gave NHS Tayside ample opportunity to tell the truth but they didn't.

" I am hopeful change will happen but in order for that to happen we need accountability.

"Just now NHS Tayside does not seem capable of that, it's in denial."

A NHS spokesperson said: "As this is a legal matter we are unable to comment. Every suicide is a tragedy and we offer our condolences to the family.”
