One of Dundee’s favourite sons is the latest to become an official champion for the city. Ahead of performing at the Caird Hall, Ricky Ross is accepting an invite to join the Ambassador programme. The Deacon Blue front man joins the likes of Lorraine Kelly and Brian Cox to tell the world about what’s happening in the city.

Ricky has a strong bond with his home city and has always carried out the role in an unofficial capacity.

He has written songs about the city and promoted fellow musicians, inviting Michael Marra to join Deacon Blue on a European tour and more recently The Hazey Janes to support the band on a tour which saw them play the Royal Albert Hall. Ricky’s daughter graduated from Dundee University recently and he is here often to work with bandmate Gregor Philp and to see his beloved Dundee United at Tannadice.

Delighted to be invited to become the latest Ambassador, Ricky says:

“Dundee is a great city with a proud heritage. It's a friendly place with its own humour that always makes me laugh. I detect a real fascination with how Dundee has re-invented itself and grown to be this confident centre of excellence in so many fields

"Medical and academic research, the games industry and the arts are all huge factors in this. It’s no wonder Dundee is the first UK UNESCO City of Design.

"Because of Dundee's size, it has welcomed all kinds of newcomers and I believe that, in microcosm, Dundee is a picture of the smart, ambitious country Scotland could still become.”
