Sir Billy Connolly is to be awarded another accolade in his home town of Glasgow today.

The Big Yin will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Strathclyde later.

Sir Billy is one a several distinguished individuals being recognised for their contribution to society at the University’s graduation ceremonies which take place over the next week.

The dyed-in-the-wool Glaswegian, who celebrates his 75th birthday this year, will be made an honorary Doctor of the University at a graduation ceremony in the Barony Hall.

Others receiving honorary degrees from the University are: Dr Max Nikias, president of the University of Southern California; Nigel Whitehead, Group Managing Director of BAE Systems; Nigel Cantwell, an international consultant on child protection; and Richard Hunter, Convener of Court at the University.
