Perth teenager Lily Douglas died in her home on Sunday following a five year battle with cancer.

Aged nine Lily was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare type of cancer affecting bones or the tissue around the bones.

Lily's mum, Jane Douglas shared the tragic news in a Facebook post on Sunday night. She said: "My beautiful baby girl danced her way to heaven at 7.17 tonight her heart failed but she was on the sofa at home cuddled into me where she wanted to be.

"She will leave a massive hole in my heart if love could have saved her she would have lived to a million years old , she is at peace and is finally in no more pain.

"Even with cancer lily lived her best life , and was loved by everyone I hope I made her proud I was her mum , we were a great team."

The youngster won the Teenager of Courage award in the 2021 Pride of Scotland awards for her bravery, positivity and determination to help others.

Inspired by Captain Tom she raised over three thousand pounds for NHS charities by taking a few steps using her frame.

She had been a champion dancer and her inspirational story reached celebrities such as Lewis Capaldi and Dame Arlene Philips.
