Up to 40 people attend St Andrews University halls party

St Andrews University and Police Scotland are investigating a weekend halls party which up to 40 people attended.

A staff member required hospital treatment after the gathering at David Russell Apartments was broken up.

Bosses say disciplinary action will be taken.

A spokesperson for the University of St Andrews said: “Over the weekend 30-31 January a party took place in a University hall of residence attended by up to 40 people.

“The incident has been reported to the police.

“Students have been reminded regularly that since the turn of the year the law in Scotland prohibits parties which mix households.

The University is investigating the incident.”

A letter was sent out to students by Principal Sally Mapstone informing them of the coronavirus breach.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “An investigation is under way following a report of a party in student halls at St Andrew's University on Sunday, 31 January, 2021. Enquiries are ongoing.”
