We live in an amazing part of an amazing country, and one of the highlights has got to be the huge choice of places to go for a walk, run or play outdoors. Of course, the most appreciative residents are our four-legged friends!

We have so many places to walk our dogs, and we are lucky that most of them are great walks for us too. But all dog walkers know that it is important to choose a dog walk wisely, with many factors to consider; the terrain, other users and weather. We have put together a list of some of our top picks for a pet walk. Maybe there is one here you haven’t tried.

Monikie Country Park

The hugely popular Monikie country park is a haven for your four-legged friends. Built around the site of two former reservoirs, it is both flat and wide, perfect for stretching those doggy legs.

There is a large outdoor play area for children, and a café open throughout the summer months. It offers plenty for those who love the water including kayaks and rowing, and of course plenty of trails for walkers. A real all-rounder of a destination.

Lunan Bay

A place loved by its locals, Lunan Bay is a real treat for anyone. The beach provides views which are simply beautiful, but your puppy pals in particular will love this place. It is long, flat and sandy, simply perfect for doggy antics.

It's a people's paradise too, both in terms of its beauty but also practically, as there is a car park, and a café.

Forfar Loch Walk

The Forfar Loch walk is really handy if you are in the town centre as it is only about a ten-minute walk from Forfar's town centre.

Part of the Forfar Loch Country park this is a gem of a place, with plenty of space for your pooch to run around and you might even spot some roe deer and otters.

Camperdown Park

Of course, this list wouldn't be complete without mentioning Camperdown Country Park which is Dundee's largest park. With plenty of grassy areas and woodland it is an absolute top spot for dogs and their walkers. There is also a great play area for children.

Templeton Woods

Templeton Woods is a local favourite and it is easy to see why. There is a large woodland area, reservoir and several different types of tracks to try out.

Your dog may enjoy spying on some red squirrels and even the odd roe deer, not to mention many varieties of our feathered friends.

Some tracks are very popular with horse riders and cyclists so keep an eye out when its busy, so your pooch doesn’t get an unwanted surprise.

Bamse Walk

Who better to recommend a walk for dogs, than a dog himself? Bamse was a legendary St. Bernard who sailed with the Navy in World War 2. He was a hero to sailors and there now stands a statue of Bamse at Montrose Harbour.

This walk begins at his statue at the harbour, continues through a trail of pubs (where legend has it that Bamse would pull drunk sailors back to their ship), and ends at Bamse’s grave.
