Immediately after the Game of Thrones finale on Monday night, eagle-eyed viewers took to social media to claim that CGI was used in the traumatic Walk of Shame scene.

The harrowing scene saw actress Lena Headey (as Cersei Lannister) strip naked as an atonement for her sins and walk through the streets as onlookers spat and threw excrement at her. Grim stuff.

A number of viewers pointed out discrepancies in the filming, causing some to speculate whether Lena’s head was superimposed and a body double was used.

Today it has emerged that Lena DID use a body double – 27-year-old British actress Rebecca Van Cleave, who beat 1,000 other actresses to the role.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rebecca said: “It was one of the scariest, most wonderful, most gratifying experiences I could have imagined.

“I never in a million years would have thought I would be in Dubrovnik surrounded by hundreds of extras and crew members throwing food at me, but it was amazing.”

41-year-old Lena, who was pregnant at the time, walked through the streets of the coastal Croatian city in a beige body suit before Rebecca repeated the exact same route. Lena’s facial expressions were then placed onto Rebecca’s body using CGI.

“Lena was so good about walking beside me and guiding me into what Cersei was thinking and the movements,” said Rebecca.

“We were playing tag team – ‘You’re it!’ – and trying to make light of the fact we’re all covered in everything and going through this together.”

Lena told Entertainment Weekly: “It was a long process trying to find somebody who got what it means physically to be there with all that stuff going on, and Rebecca is a great actress.”
