Russell Brand admits he was "like a nan judging" when he hosted the BRIT Awards, as he was one of the only sober people there.

He was at the helm of the ceremony in 2007, the same year Amy Winehouse took home the BRIT Award for Best British Female.

Despite receiving seven BRIT nominations in total, including two posthumously, it is the only one Amy ever won.

Russell says seeing her at that stage of her career is his favourite memory from hosting the show:

"She was winning things and she was at the beginning of her ascent and she was, sort-of well, and the problematic side was still at the point it was vaguely amusing and not tragic."

He also had some advice for this year's hosts, Dermot O'Leary and Emma Willis, telling them to enjoy themselves and "not take life too seriously".
