Ayrshire kids use music to tackle the subject of legal highs

Police Scotland and South Ayrshire Council work with young people to improve knowledge of psychoactive substances

Police Scotland, South Ayrshire Council and the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) have launched a hard-hitting video that challenges misconceptions around new psychoactive substances and so called ‘legal highs.’

The video, funded partly through Young Scot ‘Choices for Life’ and South Ayrshire Council Arts and Culture department, has been created by pupils from six South Ayrshire secondary schools and specifically addresses the commonly-held myth that ‘legal means safe’ when talking about so-called ‘legal highs’.

This video will be showcased at all South Ayrshire Schools and as part of Personal and Social Education classes to supplement the existing Choice for Life resources that teachers and campus police officers use to raise awareness of the risks of new psychoactive substances, drugs and alcohol. The central aim is to empower young people to make informed decisions when faced with challenging situations.

It is aimed at informing educators across South Ayrshire of the new resource, where the video will be unveiled for the first time.
