A song writing group based in North Ayrshire is helping women on the road to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

The group is facilitated by North Ayrshire Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service (NADARS) and was initially set up as a six-week programme about song writing, construction and recording.

It is led by Paul Brunton, who is the director of Rock ‘N’ Role Models.

The group is focused on working together in a creative environment and boosts confidence and communication as part of the recovery process.

The members, who are all women, have written and produced several songs – samples of which can be heard in the video below.

Carol Kerr from NADARS said, “It has been really effective in relation to ongoing recovery. A lot of people are isolated and afraid to leave their homes.

“The ladies who have participated have come along every week despite the trouble in their lives. They’ve formed some fantastic friendships."

Paul Brunton is the director of Rock ‘N’ Role Models and says, “My job is to inspire people to be creative but the great thing about these sessions is everyone has instead been inspiring me.”

Some of the women who go along to the group told our reporter Natasha Reid more about why the group is a lifeline…
