A MAN has been charged with offences connected to his dogs after they attacked and killed a sheep at an Easy Ayrshire farm.

The Rottweiler and Alsatian set upon the animal in a field near the small village of Lugton at around 11 am on Thursday, 11 April.

The 50-year-old owner of the dogs was later traced and sanctioned under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 and a report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police in Ayrshire say they continue to see a rise in Livestock Worrying – the term used when dogs chase, attack, or cause distress to farm animals – and have reminded all dog owners to avoid livestock and keep their dogs on a short lead when there is a chance livestock may be nearby.
