A Dreghorn man who battered a woman as she held her child has been jailed for 18 months.

46-year old Duncan Dean repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped on his victim's head and body then hit her in the face with a laptop computer as she tried to protect the youngster.

He admitted assault, shouting and swearing and threatening behaviour between April and July.

Dean also breached bail conditions banning him from contacting his victim, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard.
