Elderly woman robbed in Kilwinning

An investigation has been launched after a pensioner was robbed in Kilwinning.

It happened around 11.30am on Monday 10th July 2017.

A 76 year old woman was walking along a footpath, towards an underpass near to Pennyburn Road. As she was walking through, a man and a woman approached her from behind and grabbed her handbag. She was pulled back causing her to fall before the suspects then ran off.

The lady was uninjured but she is said to have been left extremely upset and shaken by the ordeal.

The male suspect is described as white, around 6 ft. tall, with a slim to medium build and in his late 20s to early 30s. He was wearing a brown hooded top.

The female suspect is described as white, around 5 ft. 3 inches in height and wearing a turquoise coloured jacket with a hood up. The hood was black and it’s not clear if the hood was attached to the jacket or if she was wearing a dark coloured hooded top underneath.

It’s believed the pair headed off towards Sundrum Place.

Detective Sergeant Keith Runcie said: “This area is close to Kilwinning Sports Centre and it is near to an area of waste ground used by local people for walking their dogs. I am appealing to anyone who was in the area or who may have walked through the underpass around the time of the incident.

“Perhaps you saw the two suspects and thought nothing of them at the time. If you did see them, you may have additional information which could assist our enquiries, and I would urge you to contact us.

“It’s clear both these individuals have no conscience, they are cowards really, to target an elderly woman on her own is despicable behaviour so I would urge anyone with any information to call us.”
