A cargo plane has been grounded at Prestwick Airport after a fuel leak.

The Cargolux 747 landed in Ayrshire on Thursday 30th March and it is believed the fuel came from a helicopter it was carrying.

Firefighters were on standby.

Some posts from plane spotters on Facebook suggest it could be hundreds of litres.

A Glasgow Prestwick Airport spokesperson said:

“A fuel spill was identified within the main deck of an inbound cargo aircraft on Thursday 30 March. This was contained by the airport’s fire service working closely with Scottish Fire and Rescue.

“We are continuing to work with our airline customer, partners and officials to provide any support required to return this aircraft to service and investigate the circumstances surrounding the fuel spillage.”
