Five to stand trial over the death of a man in Shettleston

Five suspects are to stand trial charged with murdering a man outside a birthday party.

The group are said to have attacked Gary Weir in Old Shettleston Road in Glasgow's Shettleston last August.

It is claimed the 24 year-old was repeatedly punched, kicked as well being struck with a knife or similar item.

Gary died in hospital after the alleged incident outside Shettleston Juniors football ground and social club.

Michael Gentles (21), of Baillieston, John Kelly (22), of Calton, Adam Williams (20), of Shettleston, Liam Stead (20), of Easterhouse and John Graham (21), of Dennistoun, all Glasgow, today faced a murder charge.

Lawyers for the five entered not guilty pleas during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

They also denied three separate accusations of attempted murder from the same date.

Judge Lord Burns set a trial due to begin on November 7 in Edinburgh.

Bail for all five was continued meantime
