It had been in doubt since early 2017.

There is relief for patients in Kilmaurs as the town's GP surgery is taken over by new management.

The practice is joining London Road Medical Practice in Kilmarnock and the two will collectively be known as the Marnock Medical Group.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran had managed the day to day running of the surgery in Kilmaurs in early 2017 after its GPs quit over nationwide funding and staffing issues.

Eddie Fraser, Director of Health and Social Care in East Ayrshire says, "It's really a good news story in terms of providing a bit of stability for patients.

"We're already seeing these kind of relationships between practices happening elsewhere.

"People may be aware that another practice in real difficulties was in West Kilbride. We're really pleased that the Three Towns Medical Practice is taking over the operation of that."

Patients can also now contact the practice through a new route called "AskMyGP."

The service gives patients the opportunity to contact the practice online to ask for assistance - be it a health query or an appointment. To register, visit: https://my.askmygp.uk/?c=S80378#/intro

For prescription requests, patients can call the Marnock Medical Group prescription request line on 01563 599300 which is available 24 hours a day, and leave a message.

Patients can also contact the practice through the traditional route by phoning 01563 523593.
