A hunt is underway in Ayr after a serious assault on the Main Street late on Sunday night.

A hunt is underway in Ayr after a serious assault on the Main Street late on Sunday night.

It happened just after midnight - a 41 year old man was taken the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with a serious head injury.

Officers are in the process of carrying out door-to-door enquiries and gathering CCTV footage and anyone with any information should contact them on 101.

Detective Sergeant Jane Hogg said: “Our enquiries so far have revealed the man has been subjected to a serious assault. We are in the process of trying to piece together his movements and establish exactly what has happened to him. I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or heard any sort of disturbance in the area to contact us. Any information or knowledge about the crime or the suspect could prove vital in our enquiries as we try to trace whoever is responsible.”
