Charles Hay, 39, made the death vow in a row at the couple's home in the town.
At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, Hay admitted threatening or abusive behaviour causing fear and alarm last month.
Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane refused bail and remanded him in custody for sentencing next month.
Hay's prior convictions inlcuded domestic abuse, the court heard.
