A pensioner's died in a two car crash in Ayrshire this morning.

Emergency services were called to the A70 in Coylton just after 2 this morning.

A 76 year old man, who driving a Ford Mondeo, was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

The driver of the other car, a Range Rover, was injured and remains in hospital.

A 32-year old man's been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with road traffic offences and police are appealing for witnesses.

Police released a statement earlier: "Around 0205 hours on Sunday 9 July 2017 Police were informed of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A70 at Coylton in Ayrshire."

Emergency services attended and the 76 year old male driver of a Ford Mondeo was taken to Ayr Hospital with serious injuries. Sadly he died a short time later."

The driver of a Range Rover was also injured and remains in hospital."
