Rangers have confirmed they have been given permission to host capacity crowds at Ibrox starting next week.

The Ibrox side will welcome 50,000 supporters to the home leg of their Champions League thurd round qualifier against Malmo on Tuesday.

It comes after a Glasgow City Council source confirmed to Clyde News this week they would be 'unlikely' to turn down requests from clubs for full stadia.

Rangers have held discussions with the Safety Advisory Group of Glasgow City Council and say the talks have been successful.

A club statement said: "Rangers can confirm there will be a full capacity at Ibrox Stadium going forward, subject to conditions prescribed by the Safety Advisory Group of Glasgow City Council.

“The ticket office will be in contact with season tickets holders today to confirm the process for ticket allocation for Tuesday’s match v Malmö.

“We cannot wait to hear you roaring, from the stands of Ibrox Park.”

Steven Gerrard's men hosted around 23,000 fans to their Premiership opener on Saturday when they beat Livingston 3-0.

The last full capacity crowd they hosted at Ibrox was in March 2020 when they took on Bayer Leverkusen in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on Tuesday that Scottish clubs must still apply for crowds of over 5,000 when the country moves 'beyond Level 0' of coronavirus restrictions on Monday.

Glasgow City Council have approved a request from Rangers over the past couple of days - with Celtic expected to follow for their home match against Jablonec on August 12.
