Six-year-old injured after being hit by a car in Maybole

A six-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in South Ayrshire. The incident happened at about 4.40pm on Tuesday, when a Vauxhall Corsa travelling along Abbot Street in Maybole struck the child.

Emergency services attended and he was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

He is described as being in a stable condition.

The 48-year-old woman driving the Corsa was checked at the scene by paramedics but was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours as investigations took place.
