South Ayrshire's bin men are following up on their promise to continue striking until South Ayrshire Council are prepared to negociate their working hours.

The strike action will affect bin collections from 5:45am each day from Thursday 12 May to Wednesday 18 May. The Council will use additional resources to try to limit disruption which means green bins scheduled for collection during the strike period will be emptied as far as possible, so please put your green bin out as normal.

Recycling bins and food waste will not be emptied if they are scheduled for collection during the strike, but they will be emptied on their next scheduled collection day.

The local authority says it realises this means you may miss a scheduled collection day as a result of the strike action and if you can't wait until your next collection day, you can take household waste (including food waste) to one of their recycling centres at Ayr, Maybole, Troon and Girvan.

These centres are open as normal during 12 May – 18 May.

Councillor John McDowall, Sustainability and Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "We recognise the disruption the strike action is causing and thank residents for their cooperation and patience. We will continue to use all available resources to limit inconvenience - unfortunately, it's not possible to run a full service.

"We have been in discussions with Unite the Union regarding the strike and suggested proposals to address their concerns but these were rejected. We will, continue to do all we can to end the action and limit disruption to the people of South Ayrshire.

"To ensure your bins are suitable for collection, please make sure that bin lids are closed, your bin is not too heavy and you don't have any side waste alongside your bins."
