A Stenvenston man who brandished a knife after being caught shoplifting has been jailed for a year.

James Smillie, 24, wielded the blade at staff after being spotted stealing electrical goods and drink from Morrisons in the town.

The jobless warehouseman admitted theft, threatening behaviour and having a knife last month.

Smillie had prior convictions for violence, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard.
