10 things as old as a fresher in 2016

As freshers descend on various towns and cities we realised that the majority of students, who will be fresh-faced 18-year-olds, are now as old as the following films, songs, bands, people and games.

WARNING, this list could make you feel old...

1. Armageddon The science fiction disaster thriller film was released in July 1998 and went on to be nominated for a number of Academy Awards.

2. Gran Turismo This computer game was released in Europe on the PlayStation in 1998, the first of many Gran Turimso games.

3. 'Baby One More Time' 16-year-old Britney Spears released her debut single 'Baby One More Time'. The song hit the top spot across the world with her infamous video which features her dressed in school uniform.

4. Atomic Kitten Atomic Kitten formed with their original line up of Liz McClarnon, Kerry Katona, and Heidi Range (who left shortly after to join the Sugababes). 'Right Now' was their debut single released in 1999.

5. There's Something About Mary This comedy film was incredibly successful becoming the fourth highest grossing film in the USA in 1998, it also led to Cameron Diaz being nominated for an Academy Award.

6. Windows 98 Windows 98, the successor to Windows 95 was released. For those who used it the start up sound below will be very familiar.

7. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets J. K. Rowling's second book was released in this year, it went on to become a very successful feature film and computer game.

8. Sugababes The Sugababes formed with their original line up of Siobhán Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan. Siobhán left after a few years and was replaced by Heidi Range (originally from Atomic Kitten). Watch the video for 'Overload' they released as their original line up in 2000.

9. Jaden Smith Son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jaden was born in July 1998.

10. Nokia 5110 The popular phone was released in 1998 and was one of the first phones to have snake!
