Is this picture moving? Optical illusion does its rounds on the internet

It's the latest picture confusing people across social media

An optical illusion has gone viral as people have been questioning whether the image is really moving or not.

It’s been shared by a Japanese professor from Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto and shows purple and red squares which seem to move. Apparently it’s called a Fata Morgana and is a type of mirage, a trick of the light which happens when a narrow band of light strikes below the horizon.

These aren't the only pictures which have been circulating the internet.

One picture of a couple hugging on the beach puzzled people due to the way the feet are facing.

It's been viewed nearly two million times with people left confused at who is stood in front and who is behind.

The trick is that the man's shorts are both cream and black, despite looking like the cream clothing is on the woman.

Then there was a picture which just looked like a wall, but actually shows a cigar sticking out.

Can you see it?

Of course there was also the dress debate, with people arguing that the following dress was white and gold or blue and black.

It is in fact black and blue and there were more than ten million tweets about it last year.
