Following the release of their new collab 'In The City' Charli XCX and Sam Smith have opened up about the meanings behind their new song.

The new song, which was released on 19th October, has yet to have a music video, but has been described as an 'unforgettable dance track', and was written by both artists, and produced by Charli.

What is 'In The City' about?

Both Charli and Sam have opened up about their new song, explaining what it's about, Charli said: "The song is about finding the people you truly love and connect with through wild nights out and partying in magical places.

It’s about feeling accepted, the magnificence of being welcomed into queer spaces and those once in a lifetime people you get to meet when you’re there."

Sam added: "Charli is a force and getting creative with her is so much fun. This track is about freedom and those unforgettable nights of abandon. I loved every minute we spent together making it."

Since releasing the song, fans have been going wild for the new tune, with one writing: 'im so happy for sam! this is the type of music they've wanted to make for so long' (sic), another said: 'charli is in her main pop girl era for real. Im predicting big things for this one.' (sic)

For Sam, this song is the follow-up to their huge hit with Calvin Harris earlier this year. 'Desire' was released back in July, and featured a music video where the pair can be seen donning some racing gear as they take to a racetrack, with Sam singing next to a 'Desire' branded car.

Meanwhile, this is the follow-up to 'Speed Drive' for Charli, whose song was featured on the hugely popular Barbie movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
