Joel Corry recalls the moment David Guetta wanted to ask his mum on a date

The wonderful Joel Corry certainly knows how to get a party started, so he was the PERFECT guest at Hits Live Liverpool on Friday 19th November!

Warming up the sold-out crowd at the M&S Bank Arena, Joel joined the amazing line-up including Ed Sheeran, The Script, Mimi Webb, Mabel, Becky Hill, Tom Grennan and Ella Henderson.

Before taking to the stage, Joel joined us backstage with his striking bleached blond hair, where he chatted to Jordan Lee about his plans for 2022, his amazing new music video for his hit single 'I Wish', and the time when legendary DJ David Guetta joked about taking his mum on a date! 👀

Jordan asked: "Your mum has a crush on David Guetta, has she tried slipping into his DMs?"

Laughing about the matter, Joel replied: "Oh my God, do you know what? I said to my mum one day she can get a selfie with David in summer, if we DJ in summer I'll bring her to Ibiza.

"He's a good looking guy, he's ageless. David actually found out about this and he was like "I want to take your mum on a date". I was like "No! No date! Selfies okay, let's just draw the line here." David was like "Ah so maybe I'm like your new father in law?" and I was like "no it's getting too weird now!"

Joel, who recently dropped his new single 'I Wish' with Mabel, also spoke about his incredibly busy last 12 months, which most recently included being in the studio with Becky Hill and Tom Grennan.

He told Jordan: "I feel so lucky right now that I'm able to work with these amazingly talented artists. I'm just having the time of my life back in the studio, Becky Hill first of all, the Queen of dance music. Finally we got in the studio, I don't know why it took so long but it was worth the wait. Bangers were made." So plural Bangers, he teased, "That's all I can say so far."

"Tom what a lad, me and Tom get on so well, he came down for the day and we had a wicked day together, and let's see what happens fam."

Despite having a love and passion for music all of his life, it wasn't until 2019 that Joel started making waves in the industry, dropping his debut single 'Sorry', which featured vocals from Hayley May.

Following the success of that, Joel then released 'Lonely' and 'Head & Heart' in 2020, working with the wonderful MNEK to land his first ever Number 1 single in the UK.

Gaining the rewards for his success, Joel was delighted in 2021 when he received three BRIT Award nominations in the categories Male Solo Artist, Breakthrough Artist and British Single of the Year. Despite losing out, Joel revealed the pride in receiving the nominations.

It's since been success after success for Joel, with the DJ going on to work with some of the world's biggest artists including Mabel, MNEK, Jax Jones, Raye AND David Guetta.
