Britain's Got Talent's choir act hit back after viewers complaints
Viewers stated they were 'already known'
Following a successful double launch show on Easter Weekend, Britain's Got Talent was once again back on our screens this weekend, as more hopeful contestants attempted to impress judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.
This weekend's show saw the likes of Hammerhand, Born To Perform and Mary P all perform, but it was a stunning performance by The London Community Gospel Choir which really got viewers talking...
Although they didn't manage to land a Golden Buzzer, The London Community Gospel Choir gave a very energetic and fun performance, singing a mash-up of 'Love Train' by The O'Jays and 'Anytime You Need A Friend' by Mariah Carey.
After getting everybody up on their feet dancing, it's no surprise the choir sailed through to the next round, but some viewers hit out on social media, claiming they shouldn't be on the show as they are 'already known'.
The brilliant group, who have previously appeared on The One Show and performed at The Royal Albert Hall, hit back in a statement, saying: "The London Community Gospel Choir is approaching its 40th anniversary and we decided to audition for BGT, to mark that occasion and use the platform to help leave behind a lasting legacy. While we may be known to some in the industry, London Community Gospel Choir is not yet a household name."

Collabro
Singing group Collabro wowed viewers in 2014 with their performances of musical theatre songs.
Jules and Matisse
Britain's Got Talent saw its second dog act winner in 2015 with Jules and Matisse.
Richard Jones
Magician Richard Jones won the hearts of the nation in 2016.
Tokio Myers
Pianist and music producer Tokio Myers won the show in 2017, pictured here with BGT judge Amanda Holden.
Lost Voice Guy
Lost Voice Guy, real name Lee Ridley, won in 2018.
Colin Thackery
Colin Thackery won Britain's Got Talent 2019 with a heartwarming performance of 'Love Changes Everything'.
Jon Courtenay
Comedy singer Jon Courtenay was crowned the winner of the 2020 series! Jon was a favourite from his very first audition, picking up Ant and Dec's Golden Buzzer!
Axel Blake
Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer act, comedian Axel Blake, was crowned the 2022 winner of Britain's Got Talent, beating the likes of ventriloquist Jamie Leahy and singer Tom Ball.
Viggo Venn
Norwegian comedian Viggo Venn won the 2023 series of Britain's Got Talent with his high vis jacket inspired routine. He said he was happy to have captured 'Simon's heart' as well as the nation's.
The London Community Gospel Choir aren't the only act to defend themselves this year.
During the launch show on Easter Saturday (16th April), singer Loren Allred was awarded with Amanda's Golden Buzzer, following her incredible performance of 'Never Enough', which featured on 2017 movie The Greatest Showman.
However, after 32-year-old Loren revealed she was actually the original vocalist in the film for character Jenny Lind (played by actress Rebecca Ferguson), viewers hit out claiming she was already a star.
BGT bosses were also quick to defend Loren, saying: "Whilst most people will have heard the infamous Greatest Showman track, Loren is not a household name, and she deserves her spot on the BGT stage.
"We hope that such articles will not count against somebody who is well-deserving of this opportunity. It's fantastic that Loren is now able to step out and stand in her own right to be the face, and not just the voice, of one of the most well-known tracks of all time."
Meanwhile, on Saturday night's show, David was the third judge to use his Golden Buzzer, awarding it to Born To Perform for their uplifting dance routine to Hairspray song 'You Can't Stop The Beat'.
