The start of 2024 has seen an influx of brand new dramas hitting our screens! With Mr Bates vs. The Post Office breaking viewing records, and people binging Michelle Keegan's Fool Me Once in a matter of days, it's safe to say we are a nation who love gripping drama series.
Although it originally aired on Channel 5 in August 2020, a brand new four-part series called The Deceived has just landed on Netflix, and viewers are hooked!
What is The Deceived?
The Deceived is a four-part thriller series created by Lisa McGee and Tobias Beer. Originally airing on Channel 5, the drama stars popular actors Paul Mescal, Emmett J. Scanlan, and Emily Reid.
The thriller is based on an English student who has an affair with her married lecturer, Dr. Michael Callaghan (Emmett J. Scanlan). As Ophelia's lover disappears, she's travels to his home in Donegal to find his wife has died in a tragic fire...
As she becomes haunted by the mysterious death, Ophelia, who is played by actress Emily Reid, begins to think she's losing her mind and goes on to unravel the shock events with local builder Sean McKeough (Paul Mescal).

Normal People actor Paul Mescal plays firefighter Sean McKeogh, whilst Catherine Walker takes on the role of Michael Callaghan's wife Roisin Mulvery.

Will there be a second series?
After series one ended with a pretty dramatic twist, viewers were convinced there would be a second series of The Deceived. However, things have been pretty quiet over the last few years, making us think series two isn't in the works.
When did it come out?
The series actually originally dropped on Channel 5 August 2020, but it landed on Netflix in early 2024.
Who created it?
The Deceived was written and created by by Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee and her husband Tobias Beer.
Speaking about the show back in 2020, co-creator Tobias Beer said: "We wanted to do something that could be a ghost story, but equally could be explained without any recourse to the supernatural, which seems to me to be true of people’s experience.
"There’s always some Smart Alec with a rational explanation, but that’s not to say it’s not frightening.”
Where was it filmed?
Filming started for the The Deceived in late 2019, with filming locations including Cambridge, Belfast, and County Down.

Arriving in early 2024, Mr Bates vs The Post Office is a four-part series based on the real-life story of postmaster Alan Bates, who led the campaign to expose what is considered the most widespread miscarriage of justice in British history. After the Flood (ITVX and STV Player)
Landing on ITV/STV in the first few weeks of January 2024, After the Flood stars Peaky Blinders actress Sophie Rundle as PC Joanna Marshall. The six-part series follows Joanna leading an investigation after she finds an identified man dead in a lift in a underground car park after a devastating flood.
Trigger Point (ITVX and STV Player)
Vicky McClure plays the role of EXPO officer Lana Washington in high octane drama Trigger Point. All six episodes from series one are available to watch now, with series two also now out on ITVX and STV Player.
Blue Lights (BBC iPlayer)
Set and filmed in Northern Ireland, Blue Lights follows three rookie police officers working in Belfast. All episodes of series one are available to stream, as is series two which was released in April 2024.
The Long Shadow (ITVX and STV Player)
The Long Shadow follows the five-year manhunt for the serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, commonly referred to as The Yorkshire Ripper. The seven-part drama stars the likes of Katherine Kelly, Charley Webb, Mark Stobbart, Liz White and Toby Jones.
