Liam Gallagher is auctioning a coveted MTV Europe Music Award he won with Oasis in 1996 to raise money for a Manchester charity.

Oasis were one of the big winners at the MTV Europe Music Awards at London’s Alexandra Palace 24 years ago taking home the Best Group honour and Best Song for ‘Wonderwall’.

Liam Gallagher has now personally donated his ‘Wonderwall’ award to food initiative Eat Well MCR, which is based in Liam’s native Manchester.

Eat Well MCR prepares and distributes food to homeless people, to people experiencing food poverty, to women seeking refuge, and to frontline NHS workers putting their lives at risk to protect the public.

Fans with extremely deep pockets can bid for Liam Gallagher’s MTV Award at the Eat Well MCR website right now. At the time of writing, the current highest bid is a huge £40,000.

Eat Well MCR say: “This is the chance of a lifetime to own a piece of musical history! We can’t thank you enough for this incredible donation Liam!”

The auction also includes a chance to have a few pints with Elbow frontman Guy Garvey at virtual pub, which will include a beer delivery from First Chop Brewery.

“You can fulfil a dream and ask this iconic Manchester star whatever you like about his career, lyrics, albums – it is up to you,” write Eat Well MCR. “Who knows, after a few beers you could be singing along to ‘On a day like this’ together!”

Fellow Manchester legends Doves have donated three items - signed vinyl copies of their first three albums, a signed acoustic guitar, and rare and signed concert posters.
