A lot of live versions of Oasis’ debut single ‘Supersonic’ have surfaced in the 30 years since it was first released.

Now though, the band have released a previously unheard version taken from a gig at the Limelight Club in Belfast on 4th September 1994, just hours after they learned that debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ had gone straight to Number 1 in the UK Albums Chart.

David Neely was the booker at the Limelight in 1994 and recalls the night Oasis played the venue.

He said: “It was a sell-out 500 people at the gig and tickets only £6.75! The Sunday of the week the debut album was released, the Limelight show was the right venue, for the right band at the right time.”

Neely continued: “I remember around 6.30pm (in the dark days before mobile phones) that a call came into the office from Radio One, saying the band had just went to Number 1 in the album charts.

“It was a show that is now claimed by thousands that they were there – simply a show that is legendary in these parts.”

The studio version of ‘Supersonic’ was recorded in a single day at Liverpool’s Pink Museum Studio and released as the band’s debut single on 11th April 1994, reaching Number 31 on the UK Singles Chart.

The anniversary is being marked by the replica re-release of the original CD single, as well as limited edition numbered and pearl coloured 7” versions.

The ‘Live at the Limelight’ version is being released digitally.
