Last night Adele fans were greeted by a handwritten note from the 'Hello' singer hinting that this could be her last ever tour.

The singer was at Wembley Stadium performing the first of four sold out dates, which will bring her world tour 'Adele Live 2017' to an end after over a year on the road.

The note began, 'So this is it after 15 months on the road and 18 months of 25 we are at the end.'

Continuing, 'Touring is a peculiar thing, it doesn't suit me particularly well. I'm a real homebody and I get so much joy in the small things.'

Then came the bit that no Adele fan wanted to hear, 'And I wanted my final shows to be in London because I don't know if I'll ever tour again and so I want my last time to be at home.'

Although this news is a shock to many fans the 29-year-old singer has previously said that she doesn't enjoy touring. Most recently in March this year the New Zealand Herald reported the singer telling her fans at the Mt Smart Stadium, "Touring isn't something I'm good at."

Going on to explain that applause makes her feel vulnerable and the only reason she's toured is because of the fans.

"I'm not sure if touring is my bag. The tour is my greatest accomplishment in my career," she said starting to cry, "When I think back to when I was 16, playing to nobody, and now...I appreciate it so much."

At one point in her Wembley performance last night she is reported to have said, "I might never see you again at a live show, but I’ll remember this for the rest of my life."

Below is a clip of Adele performing 'When We Were Young' at Wembley last night (28th June).

Since her debut single 'Hometown Glory' 10 years ago Adele has gone from strength to strength, winning a massive 15 GRAMMYs, nine BRITs, 18 Billboard Music Awards and countless other awards and nominations.

Her most recent album '25' went straight to the top spot around the world and spawned 'Hello', 'When We Were Young' and 'Send My Love (To Your New Lover)'. The album went on to become the world's best-selling album of 2015.
