Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh has weighed in on the ‘Meternity Debate’ that caused controversy on an episode of This Morning last week.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield came under fire from viewers after their ‘unprofessional’ and ‘rude’ interview with American author Megahnn Foye.

Meghann was on the show to discuss her new novel ‘Meternity’ and claimed there should be a concept which allows single people who are feeling stressed at work to have time off.

Now, mum-of-three Kym Marsh has shared her opinion on situation, seemingly agreeing with the presenter’s side of the argument.

She said “The novelist spoke about believing all non-parents, and particularly non-mums should be able to take similar paid leave, which the presenters disagreed with.”

She then went on to say “Personally, I do think it trivialises maternity leave to compare it to a holiday. We all generally get a certain amount of paid holiday each year to do with what we like. Where you’re off to give birth and raise a child for the first months of its life, which is very different.

“Let’s face it, pushing something the size of a bowling ball out of your body in no holiday!”

Ensuring she covered both sides of the story, Kym also admitted she has ‘sympathy’ for people who can’t have children and said she understands that many people do not want children. However, she reiterated the fact she doesn’t think it means they should be entitled to ‘meternity’.

Whilst interviewing Meghann via video link, Holly and Phillip found themselves come under backlash for their controversial interview. Despite originally seeming to understand where Meghann was coming from, mum-of-three Holly then revealed it should never be compared to maternity leave and said “It’s quire dangerous. I think it’s a slightly irresponsible thing to do.”

Phillip also questioned the author, asking “Can’t you do that at a weekend? This isn’t how life works!”

This sparked a series of tweets stating the presenters should apologise.
