Normal People’s Paul Mescal and The Crown star Josh O’Connor have been cast in an adaptation of “The History of Sound” - an award-winning short story.

Mescal recently featured in a role alongside O’Connor’s on-screen mum Olivia Coleman, so we can’t wait to see this young pair together.

The film follows two young men, Lionel (Mescal) and David (O’Connor) who, during WWI, set out to record the lives, voices and music of their countrymen.

The film’s Director Oliver Hermanus spoke exclusively with The Hollywood Reporter about this exciting project.

“Paul and Josh are two of the most promising actors of their generation who will share with us deeply soulful performances.

“This is an unexpected love story that needs to be told — it is a journey through the life of America, across the 20th century and the traditions of American folk music, all seen through the bond between two men immersed in the history of sound. This undeniably powerful story will certainly resonate with audiences the world over.”

When can we watch The History of Sound?

Filming is expected to start next summer in the US, with some of the film to be shot on location in the UK and Italy.
