Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars' surpasses 1 BILLION Spotify streams

Snow Patrol's hit song 'Chasing Cars' has officially been streamed more than one billion times on Spotify - 1,000,264,509 plays in fact, and counting!

With millions of songs available to play on Spotify, just over 300 songs have reached over one billion streams.

Since their 1998 debut, Songs for Polarbears, the Northern Irish/Scottish band have racked up an impressive number of critical and commercial accolades.

16 years after its release, 'Chasing Cars' is still as popular as the day it came out. It's reported to be the most-played song in British radio over the last 20 years.

The song gained significant popularity after being featured in the second season finale of the medical drama Grey's Anatomy.

Gary Lightbody once describes the song as "the purest love song that I've ever written."

Released as a download-only single in July 2006, and followed by a CD version a few weeks later, it originally peaked at number six.

In the US, it peaked at number five in the main Billboard Hot 100 chart.
