Kit Harrington to return as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones spin-off

It's in the early stages of development

Game of Thrones kept us on our toes for eight seasons of action and emotion, where no character was safe from tragedy. It wrapped up in May 2019, and we saw Jon Snow embark on the next chapter in his life as a banished Night's Watchman. A new series is now in the works which will follow what happens next for Jon Snow.

If it gets the go-ahead, Kit Harrington will reprise his role as Jon Snow. The HBO show is currently in the early stages of development, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After filming finished for Game of Thrones, Kit admitted he would like to step away from similar roles in the future saying: "Having portrayed a man who was silent, who was heroic, I feel going forward that is a role I don't want to play anymore.

"It is not a masculine role that the world needs to see much more of."

In the final episode of GoT, we saw an exiled Jon riding into the woods north of The Wall with a group of wildlings, so this is likely what the story will focus on.

This isn't the first spin-off show to come from Game of Thrones, as House of the Dragon is due to hit our TV screens in August.

The ten-episode show stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Graham McTavish, Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke and is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood book. It will follow what happened with the members of House Targaryen 200 years before the events of GoT.

House of the Dragon will be available to watch on HBO and HBO Max on 21st August and on Sky Atlantic and NOW the following day.

Take a look at the cast for House of the Dragon:

Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen

The younger brother of King Viserys and heir to the throne, Daemon is a peerless warrior and a dragonrider who possesses the true blood of the dragon.

Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower

Olivia's the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most attractive woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.

Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen

Viserys was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen. A warm, kind, and decent man - but as we've learned from Game of Thrones, good men do not necessarily make for great kings.

Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower

The Hand of the King, Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king's brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne.

Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen

The king's first-born child, Rhaenyra is of pure Valyrian blood and is a skilled dragonrider. Her only downfall is that she was not born a man.

Milly Alcock as Young Rhaenyra, Emily Carey as Young Alicent

Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole

Ser Criston Cole hails from Dorne and is the son of a steward of Lord Blackhaven. As a noble, he has no claim to lands or titles.

A release date has yet to be announced for a Jon Snow spin-off show.
