She has a brand new album on the way and recently went through the heartbreak of a break-up when she split from Liam Payne, but it looks like Cheryl could be about to take her mind off things by appearing on the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

According to the Mirror, the former Girls Aloud singer is hotly tipped to appear on the new series, which is due to return in September.

Although none of this year's contestants have been officially unveiled, head judge Shirley Ballas has previously stated that Cheryl would be her 'dream contestant'. She told the Radio Times, "I think Cheryl would be amazing."

Of course, Cheryl is no stranger to the dance world. From a young age, the Geordie girl joined the Royal Ballet School and she's since shown off her incredible dance moves in her music videos for the likes of 'Fight For This Love', 'Call My Name' and 'Parachute'.

Despite the rumours, Cheryl reportedly turned down a judging role on this year's X Factor so she could appear on Simon Cowell's brand new show The Greatest Dancer. Cheryl filmed a pilot episode of the show back in February alongside Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon, Diversity star Jordan Banjo and Glee actor Matthew Morrison, so watch this space.

Meanwhile, Cheryl isn't the only new name rumoured to be appearing on this year's Strictly Come Dancing. Reports are also suggesting that bosses are keen to secure Olympic diver Tom Daley and former Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt.

Scarlett recently teased her fans by admitting she has an exciting project coming up. Speaking in a Q&A, Scarlett said, "I can’t announce anything yet but let’s just say the end of the year is going to be great fun."

Tom Daley, who recently became a father for the first time, is also a massive fan of the show, with the diver being spotted a number of times in the audience in the past.

Although no official start date has been confirmed, if previous years are anything to go by, Strictly Come Dancing will make a return to our TV screens in September.

According to certain reports, filming for the official launch show is scheduled for Friday 31st August, where all of this year's cast will meet their celebrity partners. However, this show will not be shown live and will air at a later date.

Earlier this year it was confirmed that all four of last year's judges would be returning to the show. These include head judge Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussel.

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return later in the year.
