Derry Girls star, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, prepares to give us a closer look into her childhood growing up in Derry/Londonderry.

The actress played comedy queen Michelle Mallon on the hit Channel 4 show, a character that grew up in the city during the 90s.

The popular series, created by local writer Lisa McGee, has helped shine a light on Northern Ireland and the history of the Troubles.

The tearful final episode of Derry Girls paid tribute to the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

Jamie-Lee is teaming up with Channel 4 once again for an all-all documentary ‘The Real Derry: Jamie-Lee O’Donnell,’ that follows her upbringing in the Catholic community and how things have changed in the city since then.

With her trademark wit and warmth, Jamie-Lee documents the city’s complex past while also offering her own personal insight into her upbringing in a Catholic community.

Viewers will hear from real Derry girls, students at Jamie-Lee’s old school, about the regeneration of the city and why, despite this, many young people feel that they need to leave Derry to gain new skills and experiences.

Patricia Carroll, Executive Producer, Tyrone Productions, said: “Fiercely proud of her home city, Jamie-Lee is the perfect person to explore Derry's past and share her hopes for its future and we know that Channel 4 audiences will be both entertained and intrigued by what she discovers.”

When can we watch ‘The Real Derry: Jamie-Lee O’Donnell’?

‘The Real Derry: Jamie-Lee O’Donnell’ will air next Thursday, June 16 at 10pm on Channel 4
