A Belfast based veterinarian is advising local pet owners to take precautions due to a spike in cases of diarrhoea and vomiting.

Vets4Pets Belfast issued this brief health warning on their Facebook page over the weekend.

"We are seeing a high number of vomiting and diarrhoea cases in dogs in and around BT9,10,11,12,13."

"Although dogs are responding well to medication they become dehydrated very quickly so some have required hospitalisation."

"All the dogs we have treated have made a full recovery with prompt treatment."

Dog owners are urged to take their pets to a vet if they notice symptoms such as a loss of appetite, drinking too much, vomiting or changes in bowel movements that are out of the norm/last longer than usual.

If you are worried contact your local vet for advice.
