One in seven married people have contemplated divorce because of social media or because of what they have discovered on social media.

In fact, one in ten married people have hidden images and posts from their partners, while one in 12 admit to having secret social media accounts.

Half of those surveyed admit they have snooped on their partners’ Facebook account and one if five admit to rowing about what they discovered, as social media emerges as the new marriage wrecker.

One in ten regularly checked their partner’s accounts. The top reasons for doing this are to find out who they are talking to and to keep tabs on what their partner is doing when they are away from them.

The research of more than 2,000 married Brits was commissioned by family law specialists Slater and Gordon who have seen an increase in the number of people citing social media use as a cause of divorce.
