The world's most hipster cities have been revealed and Belfast has made the top fifty list.

Northern Ireland's 'big smoke' saw off stiff competition from famous European tourist destinations Amsterdam, Paris and even Honolulu in Hawaii to finish in 40th place.

The list compiled by Movehub.com based the study on the number of vegan eateries, coffee shops, tattoo studios, vintage boutiques, and record stores per 100,000 residents.

Belfast was judged against 446 cities across 20 countries. That’s 2,834 record stores, 7,772 vegan eats, 14,588 tattoo studios, 15,549 vintage boutiques, and 93,203 coffee shops covering a combined population of over 200 million people.

Brighton and Hove in England won the most hipster city in the world title. It's described by Lonely Planet as "without doubt Britain's most colorful and outrageous city." It ranked in the top four for three out of the five data points: Vegan eateries, coffee shops and record stores.
