Four goals from the home side inside the final 10 minutes saw the Sheffield Steelers claim a 5-1 win over the Stena Line Belfast Giants on Sunday. Goals in the final period from Schultz, Desbiens, Bjorklund and Valdix gave the Steelers the two Elite League points on offer.

The Giants were without both Alex Foster and David Rutherford due to injury with the latter picking up a knock during Saturday's home win against the Braehead Clan. Jackson Whistle started in goal for the Giants.

The opening period saw both sides cancel each other out as both Whistle in the Giants net and Steelers netminder Mustukovs ensured that the teams would go in to the locker room after the opening 20 minutes of play tied at 0-0. Mustukovs in particular did well to keep the Giants at bay during three powerplay opportunities.

Only 66 seconds into the second period and the Sheffield Steelers opened the scoring to move into a 1-0 lead. Jesse Schultz was left with a simple finish following a perfectly timed pass by Andreas Valdix at 21:06 when on a 2-on-1 situation.

The Giants responded well to the home side taking the lead and created some good chances on the Sheffield net. The visitors drew level at 37:18 as Mark Garside found Colin Shields with space in front of the net who ripped a wrist shot into the top shelf to leave the score at 1-1 after two periods of play.

The Steelers regained the lead at 51:04 and it was that man Schultz once again as his effort somehow found the back of the net while on a Powerplay. Soon after, the hosts extended their lead to two goals as Guillaume Desbiens scored at 54:21.

Little over one minute later and Christoffer Bjorklund found the back of the Giants net at 55:41 to give the Steelers a 4-1 lead. Andreas Valdix completed the scoring with a Powerplay goal at 58:42.

The Stena Line Belfast Giants are next in action next weekend with back-to-back road games - taking on the Coventry Blaze on Saturday and the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday. The Giants return to home ice on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd October with a double header weekend against the Coventry Blaze.
