Emergency services were called to the scene at the Seagoe Bridge on the Northway on Saturday morning.

Jonathan Buckley is MLA for Upper Bann.

He said: "Quite a distressing scene this morning in Portadown.

"After speaking with police, it appears that a local man in his fifties has fell from a bridge over the Northway, sustaining quite catastrophic head injuries.

"Obviously the air ambulance was close by and on scene to take the man to hospital, who now is...said to be in a critical condition.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time."

The road remained closed for a number of hours while police dealt with the incident. Mr Buckley said it is a shock for the local community:

"Well obviously coming from the area, it's quite a distressing scene.

"There's been quite a few road accidents over this last eh...number of months in the area and this will cause a lot of heartache to people locally and I just would appeal to anybody that has any information that they would come forward to the police to help assist them with their investigation," he said.

The road has since reopened.
