The security alert in Portrush in the Glentaisie Park area has been declared an elaborate hoax.

The object has been taken away for further examinations.

Residents who were evacuated from their home during the incident, which happened last night just after 7pm, have returned home.

Police have said during the incident an officer was bitten on his left leg and taken to hospital for his injury.
