Storm Jocelyn follows hot on the heels of Storm Isha this week

As the winds ease and the clean-up continues following Storm Isha, Met Eireann has named Storm Jocelyn.

Winds last night reached nearly 100mph across the UK, and it's expected Storm Jocelyn will bring further windy conditions.

According to the Met Office: "A strong jet stream is pushing another large-scale, low-pressure system from the Atlantic across northern Scotland bringing wet and windy weather for Tuesday night and into Wednesday for much of the northern half of the country."

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Steve Willington, said: “Although this system will be a step down relative to Storm Isha, with the damage and clean up still underway, we could potentially see more impacts from Storm Jocelyn.

“Outbreaks of heavy rain on Tuesday could bring rainfall accumulations of 15 to 20 mm quite widely with 40 to 50 mm over higher ground in southwest Scotland, the Scottish Highlands and parts of northwest England.

Today: A cold and windy day with frequent showers, briefly heavy with a chance of hail at times. Fresh to strong westerly winds, gales at times along the north coast. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight: A few showers this evening, then dry for most of the night. Thickening cloud will bring outbreaks rain towards the very end of the night. Freshening southerly winds. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Tuesday: Cloudy with outbreaks of rain. Drier and clearer weather spreading from the west later in the night. Fresh to strong south to southwesterly winds, gales developing along exposed coast. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Early showers in the north on Wednesday, otherwise dry and bright. Cloudy and mild on Thursday with occasional rain. A few early showers on Monday then mainly dry, bright.
