Paul Heatley's appearance as a substitute inspired Crusaders to a 2-0 win over Linfield in the Charity Shield on Saturday.

It was the Irish League's first staging of the Shield since 2017. And there was something of a stalemate before the seasoned winger opened the scoring with a wonderfully-taken lobbed effort on 68 minutes.

Heatley then turned provider for summer signing Rory McKeown who scored the second after a perfectly-timed pass.

It was a disappointing day for David Healy's side. They came closest to scoring through Joel Cooper firstly, and then Andrew Clarke.

The two sides will begin their Irish Premiership campaigns next weekend.
