The first match of the new NIFL Premiership saw Larne and Glentoran play out a 0-0 draw at Inver Park.

It was an early meeting of two sides expected to challenge at the business end of the season, but proved a tight game, which as it went on, looked like neither wanted to risk losing.

Jay Donnelly had a wonderful chance to break the deadlock for the Glens just before half-time, but his effort lacked conviction, allowing Rohan Ferguson to save.

Larne's best chance came early, just five minutes in in fact, when Ben Doherty's shot was blocked, before Lee Bonis hit the woodwork from the corner.

Glentoran are back in action next Friday when they host Crusaders.

As for Larne, on Saturday they are at Mourneview Park to play Glenavon.
