Declan Caddell will take over as Manager of Crusaders, from next season, it has been announced.

The 35-year-old former midfielder retired at the end of last season. He will replace Stephen Baxter, who earlier this season, announced he would call time on almost 20 years as boss at Seaview.

Declan Caddell is the new Manager of Crusaders.

Caddell joined the Crues 21 years ago as a 15-year-old, coming through the club's youth system and was a key player during Baxter's trophy-laden era at the North Belfast club.

During his time as a player, Caddell won three league titles and four Irish Cups, as well as the League Cup, three County Antrim Shield titles and the Setanta Cup.

He was appointed as Head of the Crusaders Football Academy in June 2022, implementing a youth review and setting up the club's full-time post-16 Academy.

A Crusaders statement announcing the news ended: "At the minute, we are fully focused behind Stephen and the team to finish the season on a high. There will be no further comment at this time."

Crusaders currently sit fourth in the Sports Direct Premiership table, just a point ahead of Glentoran, but 16 adrift of third-placed Cliftonville.
