Gilligan and Thornton to take charge of All-Ireland Club champions

Mickey Moran lifts the All-Ireland Senior Club Football title as Manager of Kilcoo

Mickey Moran has stepped down as Manager of All-Ireland Senior Club Football champions Kilcoo.

Moran led the Down side to their first All-Ireland title with victory over Dublin Kilmacud Crokes in extra-time just over three weeks ago. The 69-year-old is seen as a living legend at the East Down club, having led the Magpies to their 'Holy Grail'

Moran's assistant managers Conleith Gilligan and Richie Thornton will become the club's joint bosses for the forthcoming season.

In 1993, Moran was part of Eamon Coleman's management team as Derry clinched the county's first ever All-Ireland Senior Football title, defeating Cork in the decider.

The Maghera man also guided Derry to the 1995 National League title while he has also managed the Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal and Mayo senior teams.

As manager, Moran had previously been on the losing end of All-Ireland Final appearances with Mayo, before Slaughtneil's club defeats in 2015 and 2017, in addition to Kilcoo's 2020 reverse against Corofin.
