Michael Forney announces Giant departure

Belfast Giants forward Mike Forney has confirmed he will not be returning to Northern Ireland next season, instead opting to return to his native Minnesota with his family.

Forney spent a total of three seasons in the Elite League, initially joining Sheffield from the CHL Arizona Sundogs in 2014. He scored 33 goals and 67 points in 52 games for the Steelers to help them secure the league title and was named to the First All Star Team for the season.

The 28-year-old opted to join Belfast that summer, going on to score 47 goals and 111 points in 126 games for the Giants in all competitions.

Forney wrote on Facebook on Tuesday, “Thank you to the Belfast Giants fans, support staff, and teammates for the memorable two years. I wish this organization nothing but success in the future.”, also sharing his thanks on Twitter:
